Challenge for Ben

The Rotary Club of Gibraltar and Joint Forces Gibraltar sponsored the Challenge 4Ben - Jaunt2GIB event held on 29th August 2009
Set up in memory of soldier Benjamin Poole RM who fell in July 2008 the event set out to encourage young people of all ages to undertake some form of demanding personal challenge that requires commitment, courage and stamina - mental or physical. It's second aim was to raise funds via these challenges for worthy causes.
Ben's father, Nick challenged himself to sail on his 18ft lugger from Jersey to Gibraltar single handed to raise funds for Jersey charities and Help4Heroes.
A very successful Fund Day was held at Ocean Village, Gibraltar with many events taking place during the course of the day to suit all persons of all ages. All monies raised are for local charities and Help4Heroes.
The draw for the Rotary Raffle of a Tata Indica Car was held and the winning ticket was 2482.

    PENNY DROPS FOR CHARITY

On Sunday Penny Pilley of the Rotary Club of Gibraltar completed her first parachute jump, raising money for childrens’ charities. Leaping out of a twin engined Dornier plane at 15,000 feet isn’t everyone’s idea of an ideal way to raise money but Penny took it all in her stride. Admitting to being very nervous before the jump, afterwards she described the experience as “brilliant”.

Penny, a long time resident in Gibraltar, organised the event and sponsorship and thanked all those who thought her crazy but were prepared to sponsor her anyway!

In a tandem free-fall jump with a British Parachute Association instructor of Sky Dive Spain, Penny completed a challenge that has raised money for deserving charities and at the same time fulfilled an ambition to add another exciting sporting experience to her resume!

The jump was completed from La Juliana Aerodromo near Bollullos de la Mitacion, Seville.
