Rotary International Convention 2009

Gibraltar Rotarians visited the UK in June 2009 to attend an international convention hosted by Rotary International & Rotary International in Great britain and Ireland (RIBI). Bea Adams (former President of the Rotary Club of Gibraltar (2008-2009), Raju Alwani (present President) and Julian Risso (President-elect) represented the Club.
The Secretary General of the U.N., Ban Ki-moon of South Korea addressed the delegates on the outstanding progress that Rotary Clubs all over the world have made in one of the key projects - the eradication of Polio worldwide. Another fascinating speaker was Mia Farrow,  famous actress and a key spokeswoman for UNICEF. Mia is an honorary Rotarian. She spoke about human rights horrors suffered in Darfur, Africa. Amongst the many speakers were Dong Kurn Lee, a huge Korean Business leader and President of Rotary interantional 2008-2009 and John Kenny, the President elect 2009-10 of Rotary Interantional also addressed the delegates. Many of the speakers were extremely motivational and emphasized that Rotarians needed to continue to be extremely proactive with their myriad of humanitarian projects and as the new Rotary Interantional motto clearly reminded us all - "The Future of Rotary is in our hands"
