JENNIFER STENTIFORD, PRESIDENT’S SPEECH – ANNUAL PRESENTATION EVENING

23RD APRIL 2013 AT THE ROYAL CALPE BAR GIBRALTAR

Good evening ladies and gentlemen and Ben

Welcome to our annual Awards and Speakers Evening.  Every year the Rotary Club of Gibraltar make three awards, namely,  Honoured Elder, Civil Servant and Youth. These awards are made to recognise their achievements over and above their normal way of life.

We also like to acknowledge the speakers that we have had over the Rotary year.

I would like to say thank you to all the speakers, many of whom are from abroad and are unable to be here this evening. Thank you all  for making our weekly meetings so interesting.

Without further ado, I will start the presentations with our Youth Award which this year goes to Ben Donohue aged 8 – I would like to add at this point, each award receives a plaque and a cheque for £100.00  The nomination reads :

The second award is The Honoured Elder Award which goes to John Stephen Barea.

our Vice President Jane will read the nomination.

Our third award is the Civil Servant Award which goes to Marie Carmen Santos – I will ask Present Elect Lyana to read the nomination.

That completes our awards for 2013.

Moving on …..  I have a few donations to make ….. The first one being to Clare Borrell from Women – in – Need.    Each year the club donates Christmas presents to the children in the home, also, we give a sum of money to help them with their Christmas festivities.  Additionally, we received a cheque for £250.00 which came in a little too late for Christmas.  I have pleasure in presenting this to you now.

On April 6th we held a car boot sale to raise funds for The George Pusey Memorial Fund which has been set up in memory of the late George. Most of you will remember George from Charlies and latterly, The Ship Inn at Marina Bay.  If I could ask Phil Cartwright, trustee of the George Pusey fund to receive the cheque.

Our last donation this evening goes to Jinson Lima who took part in the spring edition of The Maroc Challenge in March  to raise funds for an automatic defibrillator for Calpe House.  Please accept this cheque for £250.00 towards the purchase of this very worthy cause.

That’s the formalities over –  Raffle,  food,  Cash bar is open.
